My road trip hit a rainstorm and the Painted Desert looked like watercolor melting—crazy beautiful. Watch out for sudden weather! Also, pro tip: the gift shop sells petrified wood souvenirs, but nothing beats the real thing (left behind, of course). Next time I’ll try the Blue Mesa hike!
