Just got back from Frankenmuth and I still can’t pronounce half the things I ate. This place is like getting teleported straight into a storybook—cuckoo clocks, Bavarian architecture, and chicken dinners the size of my face (looking at you, Zehnder’s).
I wandered Main Street in search of the perfect pretzel and wound up in a Christmas store… in May. Do these folks EVER take the decorations down? Ended up buying a hand-painted ornament because it felt weird to leave without one.
Best part? The riverside covered bridge at sunset—almost made me believe in romance again.
If you’ve got tips for the best beer hall or a weird little shop I should check out next time, please spill!

RE: Frankenmuth, Michigan: Chicken Dinners & Lederhosen Dreams
Stayed at Bavarian Inn for two nights last year—swear I gained five pounds on pastries alone. My grandma dragged me into every fudge shop on the strip.
We did the riverboat cruise, which sounded cheesy, but turned out surprisingly awesome. Saw a group of folks in full dirndl and lederhosen, accordion and all. If anyone knows where to rent that gear for Halloween, hit me up.
p.s. Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland is overwhelming… in a good way?

Took the kids out to Frankenmuth for the summer festival—brats, polka bands, and flowers everywhere.
Walked the riverwalk early one morning, birds going nuts, the air full of fresh bread smells. Stumbled into a cheese shop and, honest to goodness, almost missed the parade because I got stuck debating cheddar with a stranger.
If you want a less-crowded picnic, cross over to Heritage Park. Locals know.

Confession: I only went for the chicken and ended up obsessed with the little bakery that sells those weird butterhorn rolls. Never thought I’d pay $7 for a loaf of bread, but here we are.
Tried to learn a polka dance at Fischer Hall—let’s just say my ankles still haven’t forgiven me.

Don’t skip the historical museum on Main—it’s got vintage beer steins and a miniature replica of the original village.
For anyone into weird roadside Americana, check out the giant wooden shoes outside Kern’s Sausage House. And yes, it’s worth waiting in line for the sausage platter.
Bavarian Festival in June is bonkers, btw. Pack stretchy pants.

Pro tip: if you’re there in winter, bring two pairs of socks (those river winds cut right through you).
The “Frankenmuth Fudge Crawl” is real and dangerous—pace yourself. Also, I’ve never seen so many garden gnomes for sale in one place.
Anyone ever do the horse-drawn carriage ride at night? Worth it?
