Jackson Hole & Tetons: Wild Skies, Wilder Town

Post by CrimsonCanoer »

You ever see mountains so big they make your thoughts feel small? That’s Jackson Hole for me.
Walked to the Snake River overlook at dawn, whole place was pink and purple, clouds like cotton candy.
Downtown was a little too “tourist trap” but the local elk chili at The Gun Barrel—next level.
If you like hiking, try Taggart Lake Trail, but don’t rush it.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is my new favorite place for mountain air and bad cowboy hats.

Been livin up the road in Dubois twenty years, I only go to Jackson for the rodeo or to remind myself city folks’ll pay $30 for a burger.
Last trip my truck broke down near Kelly, ended up spendin half a day talkin to an old rancher who showed me the best spot for spotting moose (ain’t tellin, it’s ours now).
Tourists keep askin me how to pet a bison. Don’t.

i tried to see sunrise at Jenny Lake but got lost, gps spun me in circles then i hit a traffic jam of elk no joke, almost missed the whole dang thing
finally parked, shoes soaked, still best view of my life,
coffee at Persephone Bakery after: overrated but warm.
if you see a silver airstream with a dented fender that was me, sorry.

I’d always heard about Jackson Hole, finally made it out last fall. Hiked all the way to Phelps Lake overlook—my legs hated me but my camera loved it. Got rained on three times, but hey, worth it for the rainbow shot over the Tetons.
bring cash, lotta places don’t love cards.

camped near the river, thought coyotes were howlin but was just a bunch of college kids on guitars,
bacon cooked on a campfire tastes better under the tetons,
you ever see that many stars?
jackson gets weird after midnight lol.
